Lake Awoonga Recreation Area.
Lake Awoonga a short twenty minute drive from Boyne Island, has proven a popular spot with both the locals and tourists. With two well designed recreation parkland areas which have a large number of BBQ shelters, safe swimming areas and all the facilities for an enjoyable days outing.

The parklands at the Lake have a number of walking trails which pass through rainforest areas where the local fauna and flora can be enjoyed.

The Lake has also been well stocked with most varieties of fresh water fish including Barramundi which are not subject to seasonal closure. For the keen fishermen who want to get amongst the Barramundi a boatramp has been provided with some record catches being recorded.

Kroombit Tops State Forest and National Park.
The Eastern Escarpment.

Kroombit Tops forestry and National Park cover an area of some 34,400 hectares and rise almost vertically in areas 800 meters from the coastal plain. This densely forested, rugged sandstone plateau is scarred with high ridges and deep gorges.

Situated approximately 85 Km. West of Boyne Island, it is a perfect full day trip for those who enjoy the natural beauty of wilderness areas. With panoramic views to be enjoyed from the eastern escarpment lookout over the foot hills toward the coast, to deep pockets of rainforest.

The road up to Kroombit Tops although not sealed is well maintained and accessible to all vehicles up to the escarpment lookout, the road only being closed after heavy rain periods.

One of the deep pockets of natural beauty.

4WD day and overnight safaris operate from Gladstone to Kroombit Tops and to a number of other National Parks in the Central Queensland area. Bookings can be arranged for these safaris at our reception.
